The new Reef Blizard planktonic food blends by Brightwell Aquatics are some of the new products we are seeing from the company as of late. Coming in three varieties — Reef Blizzard-O, Reef Blizzard-L and Reef Blizzard-S — the product line gives you the ability to select food bases on particle size and formulation for your invertebrates exact dietary needs.
The powdered foods have all the tasty treats your corals, clams, fish, sponges and crinoids needs. So what’s in these blends? Brightwell based these of biopigment-rich, powdered blend of marine phytoplankton and zooplankton and some ‘proprietary complex particles’ that deliver protein and other elements with the emphasis on improving coloration of your suspension-feeding inverts and fish.
The Reef Blizzard-O is most likely the finest formula as it was made with octocorals, clams and sponges in mind. If you need something a bit bigger for targeting SPS the Reef Blizzard-S is what you will need. The largest formula of the three is the Reef Blizzard-L for your LPS, fish and motile invertibrates.
As we’ve found with the powered blends, they can be pretty handy and last longer than liquid food. Even though its rather convenient to just pour in some premixed liquid, the dry version allows for longer storage and customization of your own feeding regimen. You can easily mix these together for a broad-ranged feeding strategy or target feed based on your own inverts.
One thing the Brightwell team recommends is blending these powders with liquid nutritional supplements such as its own VITAMARIN-C, CORALAMINO, or GARLICPOWER and then refrigerated for prolonged stability. These products should be available in the upcoming months.
